BPW Englewood/Venice

BPW is not like any other organization.

This organization was founded in 1919 and is unique in that it has a long history of advocating for women and is still passionately and effectively engaged in assuring equal rights, equal pay and equal opportunities in the workforce. Every working woman has benefited from the efforts of this organization in Education Foundation, Scholarships, Public Policy, Equal Pay and Lobbying for Women's Rights.

2010 Scholarship Recipients Selected

At the June 15, 2010 we honored our  7 scholarship recipients.  This year's recipients:

The three cap-and-gown"non-traditional" women are:

  1. Melissa Rivest - She is attending the State College of Florida, formerly the MCC, Melissa is pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Social  Work.
  2. Loriann DeCaro -  She is currently enrolled at the  State College of Florida taking business and legal classes.  Her goal is to own a "document preparation" service that provides legal forms and expertise in filling them out, at one fifth or more of the cost of an attorney.
  3. Amber Lamar - She recently graduated from the State College of Florida with an Associate in Arts degree.  She has been accepted into the Educational Leadership program at the University of South Florida in Tampa.  Her goal is to become a teacher who will inspire her students to do well in school.

Our four High School recipients are:

  1. Jessica Costanzo - Venice High School.  Jessica will attend the Valdosta State University in Valdosta/Georgia.  She is  pursuing a Bachelors degree in Athletic Training.
  2. Lashawnda Anderson -  Venice High School.  Lashawnda has been accepted at Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, FL. Her goal is to become a High School Guidance Counselor.
  3. Samantha Brewer - Lemon Bay High School.  Samantha will attend Valencia Community College in Orlando, FL.  She will be working on her A.A. degree at the Community College and then transfer to the University of Central Florida to become a Physical Therapist.
  4. Ellen Pion - Lemon Bay High School.  Ellen not only graduated from Lemon Bay High School in May, but at the same time she received her Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN)  degree from Charlotte Technical Center. She is will be attending Edison State College to complete her nursing career and graduate with an RN degree.


The scholarship committee is looking forward to introducing these seven women to you at the next meeting!  Please give them a warm welcome and show them what BPWEV is all about!
