NEW YEAR – NEW YOU!

The start of the New Year is when most people start thinking about making New Year’s Resolutions. I don’t like the term “resolutions”. Did you know that while 1/2 of all Americans make resolutions – only 8% actually achieve them? That’s terrible odds! And, I find another problem that so many people have with resolutions is that when they “slip up”, they see it as a deal breaker. “Well, I’ve failed! No point in going on now. I’ll just have to wait until NEXT year to try to quit smoking…”

So, instead of setting “resolutions”, try setting GOALS for yourself. Where do you see your personal life going this year? Do you have a desire to socialize more, or maybe you’re already spreading yourself too thin? Where do you see your work life headed? Are you happy in your profession? Maybe you’re happy where you are, but you want to pump up your performance, or maybe you need to learn to delegate more. Where do you see your physical health going this year? Could you add a little more physical exercise, stress relief, or improve your diet plan by eating healthier foods?

We ALL can – and SHOULD – look for ways to improve ourselves. Taking the time for self-improvement is an investment in your future. It shows that you value YOURSELF enough to take care of YOU. We’ve all heard the saying, “If Mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy!” It’s true – if you’re unhappy in ANY area of your life, it will carry over to how you interact with others, usually those who mean the most to you. You need to take care of YOU before you can take care of others. Be sure to make YOURSELF a priority in this coming New Year. Happy New Year to all my BPW Sisters!
